BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY Q&As
-
What is birth photography?
Birth photography is the art of capturing the powerful and emotional moments of childbirth. It documents the journey from labor through delivery and the first moments of bonding with your newborn. Birth photography captures the strength, love, emotion, and powerful story that will become your birth story! These photos showcase how strong women's bodies are and what we are capable of. The images provide a beautiful and timeless record of one of life’s most significant events.

When do you arrive for the birth photography session?
My arrival really depends on many factors such as if you are having a hospital or home birth, if you have an epidural, if this is your first baby, and how quickly your labor is progressing. Typically, I aim to arrive about an hour or so before the baby is expected to arrive and stay for about one to two hours afterward. We will be in close communication throughout your pregnancy, and once you are in labor, I will need regular updates from your support person. Labor is very unpredictable, but as a former labor and delivery nurse, I can usually judge when to arrive with a few key questions.

How long do you stay during the birth?
I stay throughout the labor and delivery process and usually for about one to two hours after the birth. During this time, I will capture: Before: The environment of the birth location, your interactions with your support team, details of your labor process, and candid moments that reflect the anticipation and emotional journey of labor. During: The key moments of delivery, including the baby's arrival, the first cries, and the immediate reactions of you and your partner. After: The first moments of bonding with your baby, such as skin-to-skin contact, the first feeding, family interactions, and any special traditions or moments you want to be documented. These photos aim to capture the joy, relief, and overwhelming love that follow the birth.

What are the reasons you might not make it to the birth?
I do everything in my power to be there for your birth, but as a mom, wife, and nurse, there are times when I may not be available. Labor can be unpredictable—sometimes it progresses very quickly, or there may be unexpected complications that make it difficult to arrive on time. Currently, I am unable to offer on-call availability. If I am unable to attend your birth, your $200 retainer fee will go towards a newborn photography session. This ensures that you still receive beautiful professional photos to celebrate your new arrival.
-
What are your fees for birth photography?
My birth photography package is $500 for up to 4 hours of coverage. If additional time is needed, there is a fee of $150 per hour. I require a retainer fee of $200 to secure your due date on my calendar. This fee is non-refundable but is applied towards your total session cost. It will also be used towards a Fresh 48/Newborn Session if I am unable to attend the birth for any reason. The remaining balance is due prior to full delivery of the gallery or at the time of the newborn session if I am unable to attend the birth.

How do we book your birth photography services?
To book my services, please submit a booking request. We will schedule a consultation to discuss your needs and preferences, after which you can secure your date with the retainer fee. I only take a certain amount of clients with due dates within the month so it is imperative to secure your spot.
Thank you for considering me to document such an intimate and profound moment in your life. Bringing a new life into the world is an incredible journey, filled with moments of strength, love, and joy. I would be honored to capture these precious memories for you.
